Measles Continues To Spread Across CK

Chatham-Kent continues to be one of the regions hardest hit by the ongoing measles outbreak in Ontario.

According to the most recent update from Public Health Ontario, another 14 cases of the measles virus were identified in Chatham-Kent between April 29 and May 6.

A total of 145 cases have now been reported in the municipality since January 1, which accounts for 10.1 per cent of all cases detected across the province.

Out of the 17 regional health units in Ontario, Chatham-Kent Public Health has reported the fourth-highest number of measles cases since the onset of the outbreak. Chatham-Kent also has the second-highest rate of infection at 133 people per 100,000.  Southwestern Public Health has reported the highest number of cases in Ontario and has the greatest rate of infection at 209.3 people per 100,000.

Since October 28, 2024, a total of 1,440 measles cases have been identified in Ontario. Of those individuals, 87 per cent were unimmunized.
