A recent rash of student suicides in nearby Woodstock is putting the spotlight on mental health awareness in high schools.
Ellie Fraser, Mental Health Lead with the Lambton Kent District School Board says there is a concerted effort to have supports in place.
“There are mental health needs in every board and we are working as a province really hard on focusing on mental health awareness and expertise,” says Fraser. “Not just for our staff, but for our students as well.”
Fraser says the first step for both students and staff is to feel comfortable advocating for themselves and not being afraid to talk about their feelings.
