Million Dollar Night for Kinsmen

A major milestone for a local service club.

The Wallaceburg Kinsmen are celebrating having raised one million dollars through their bingo.

Chairman Sheldon Parsons says it’s an amazing accomplishment, one they weren’t sure they were going to reach.

“90% of the time, the Community Centre breaks even ,some of that time they lose money,” Parsons says. “It’s been a struggle for the club, but ti’s come through in spades.”

Parsons says it’s a safe, reliable way to make money for community projects, and is a true team effort.

“The leadership and administration in the Hometown Bingo Association and within the Kinsmen Club was instrumental in starting, continuing, and making sure it thrived.”

There are currently 12 service groups that work at the bingos and receive funds, each of which will receive a $250 donation this year.

The Kinsmen took over running bingo in Wallaceburg in 2004, when the municipality’s smoking bylaw forced the closure of private bingo halls.
