Mobile Market Gets a Funding Boost

The highly successful mobile market hosted by the Prosperity Roundtable will be able to continue and actually expand.

Libro Credit Union has stepped up with a $40,000 donation to help cover the cost for the rest of 2021. The service first appeared last September and due to the pandemic the need has increased dramatically.

Phillip Mock is the project coordinator for Prosperity Roundtable, and says the money will sure come in handy.

“It’s helping towards food costs, to help with the affordability of the market, it’s going to be helping with some of the logistics for the organization, including ensuring the van keeps running on the road and we’re still able to deliver to communities across Chatham-Kent,” Mock says. “Some of the money will be used for other projects associated with the Mobile Market to keep it running and expanding, to offer more accessibility to affordable produce in our community.”

Right now, the Mobile Market is preparing 300 boxes a week for its customers.

He says another interesting occurrence is the community of users that have started to come together to swap recipes and share tips on how to store the fresh produce.
