More changes are coming for the Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent.

Following a strategic review, the organization recently closed its thrift store in Ridgetown, although the community’s food bank continues to operate out of the Main Street East building.

Now, officials say the Community Services operations will close at the current location at 19 Raleigh Street on May 16 and be relocated to the Salvation Army Church at 46 Orangewood Blvd as of May 20.

The Orangewood church is already used for various programs, including Operation Coverup, packaging and distribution of Christmas hampers, and weekly meal preparation.

Captain Larry Bridger says the changes have become necessary given the organization’s current staffing levels, but he hopes making use of the church space will allow for expanded programming in the months ahead to better serve the Salvation Army’s clientele.
