More local organizations are helping seniors keep active with provincial funding in hand.

The Ontario government has announced $6 million through the Seniors Community Grant Program to support 282 community projects that help seniors and older adults stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected, close to home.

Among the 2024-25 recipients include Wallaceburg’s Sydenham Community Curling Club. Officials say the $25,000 grant to introduce pickleball, cards, and Crokinole to 100 rural adults, at no cost.

The Ridgetown and Area Adult Activity Centre has been given $22,192 to offer diverse fitness programs, complemented by a new online feature, ensuring participants can engage safely from home while staying connected and receiving support from a qualified instructor.

The most recent round of funding is in addition to an announcement earlier this month supporting hundreds of Seniors Active Living Centres across the province, including several in Chatham-Kent.
