Some tense moments in Wheatley on Canada Day, with more gas detected on Talbot Street West.
Emergency crews responded to the Wheatley branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library once again late Tuesday afternoon, shortly before 5:30 after a local resident detected a strong odour of gas in the area.
It is the same site where gas was found bubbling from the ground on June 26, resulting in an evacuation order affecting as many as 60 residences.
No evacuation order was issued this time around, and fire officials visited neighbouring properties in person to offer reassurance and answer any questions.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue officials said by quarter to 11, there was no more gas being detected, however, firefighters remained on scene overnight to monitor the area.
