More gas is leaking in Wheatley.

Monitoring equipment at 15 Erie Street North, the site of the August 26th explosion, detected the presence of hydrogen sulphide at 4 o’clock this morning.

Chatham-Kent fire crews, the provincial hazmat team, and consultants from Golder Associates are on scene and samples of the gas hve been sent to Windsor for a full analysis.

Officials from the Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks and Chatham-Kent technical staff are also on scene.

Municipal officials say gas is still being detected, however right now, no changes are being made to the evacuation area put in place in August, and ongoing monitoring is taking place. The public will be notified should the situation change.
