More Municipal Employees On ‘Sunshine List’ In 2024

Nearly 75 more Chatham-Kent employees made over $100,000 in 2024, compared to the year prior.

According to information released under Ontario’s Salary Disclosure Act, there were 392 municipal employees on the so-called Sunshine List for 2024, down up from 319 in 2023. The list consists of 132 police employees, 168 managerial or non-union, 59 fire staff, 25 members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association, one member of CUPE, six members of Unifor, and one member of council.

The top earner employed by the municipality was Chief Administrative Officer Michael Duben who took home $335,885 last year.

CK’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai was paid the second most at $317,850, followed by retired Chatham-Kent’s Police Chief Gary Conn at $284,544. Current Police Chief Kirk Earley also made $277,202 last year.

Other notable earners from last year include Catherine Hoffman, CK’s general manager of Corporate Services and chief human resources officer, who earned $243,984, and Infrastructure and Engineering Services General Manager Edward Soldo who made $241,303.

Under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, public sector organizations such as hospitals, school boards, municipalities, colleges, universities and hydroelectric companies owned by the province are required to list employees who earn $100,000 or more each year.
