More Rain Could Raise Levels in Local Waterways

With more rain through the week, conservation staff are warning of the risk of rising water levels in local rivers and streams.

A statement from the St Clair Region Conservation Authority says multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms today through Thursday could bring as much as 70mm of rain to some areas of the watershed.

Officials say already saturated ground has little ability to soak up more water, and high amounts of rain in a short period of time could lead to flash flooding and pooling on roads.

Residents are urged to avoid waterways and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift-moving water.
