More Schools Can Open Monday, But Not Here

The province surprised some people Thursday by announcing several more school districts across the province would be open for business on Monday.

Again, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton did not make the cut.

Chatham-Kent’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says he doesn’t get it.

“I was actually surprised that Chatham-Kent wasn’t on the list, and Sarnia-Lambton. This is a provincially determined decision and all I can say is this was most likely a decision that is partly made on the basis of regional analysis of the numbers, as opposed to simply what is going on in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia Lambton.”

John Howitt, the Director of Education for the Lambton-Kent District School board was not thrilled to get the news.

“We are a little frustrated we don’t know, and I am sure Dr. Colby is also frustrated, and I am in no way critical of Dr. Colby not having that information. I’m critical that he should have that information, and should have input to whether our schools are open or closed.”

The areas that will be open for in person learning beginning on February 1st includes London, Thames Valley, and the Ottawa area.
