Another high profile politician will be in Dresden as the fight to prevent a dormant landfill from reopening continues.
Last week, NDP Leader Marit Stiles joined local dignitaries and environmental advocates for a rally in Dresden to protest the Ford government’s Bill 5, which removed the need for a full environmental assessment or First Nations consultation to move forward with development of the Irish School Road site.
Now, members of Dresden C.A.R.E.D. (Citizens Against Reckless Environmental Disposal) are hosting an event billed as “A Riverside Chat” with Green Party leader Mike Schreiner at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113 in Dresden.
Schreiner says proposed legislation he co-wrote with independent MPP Bobbi Ann Brady would be one way to fight back against Bill 5, and create a task force of farmers, agricultural experts, and land-use planners to develop recommendations to create a foodbelt protection plan.
Saturday’s Riverside Chat gets underway with a public meet and greet at the Legion on St. George Street at 5:30.
