New C-K Fire Inspector, Warning For Snowmobiles, Ag Business Centre Position Funding Pulled

C-K budget deliberations resumed Tuesday night , bringing a new Fire Inspector to the area.   The new position will cost the Municipality over $121, 000 plus equipment costs

OPP are warning snowmobilers of unsafe ice due to the mild weather. Police are warning residents to stay off the ice. There were three deaths registered this weekend alone in the province because of snowmobiles going through the ice.

The municipality is no longer partnering with the University of Guelph to fund the Project Co-ordinator’s position at the Ag Business Center at the Ridgetown Campus.  The fund has been split between the Chatham-Kent and the University.  Councillor Leon LeClair says it only cost the Municipality about $36,000 and the position encourages growth in C-K’s ag industry.

Mother Nature has forced the closure of the ice surface at the Downtown Chatham Centre. Organizers blame warm weather and rain, making it impossible to keep a nice ice surface for skating.
