The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is eyeing another parcel of land for affordable housing.

At tonight’s meeting, members of council will vote on whether to purchase 426 Lacroix Street for $1,699,999 from the St. Clair Catholic District School Board.

A report to council said the municipality would use money from the Affordable Housing Reserve, funded by CMHC’s Housing Accelerator Fund for the purchase. The vote will also allow administration the ability to tender the demolition of the school building at a future date.

Additionally, council will vote on approving annual funding of approximately $5,000 for the property’s ongoing maintenance.

If voted through, staff will release a Request for Expression of Interest for the site to be redeveloped into affordable housing, with a report back to council in 2026.
