At their council meeting next week, Chatham-Kent council will debate a motion on whether to suspend the mandatory vaccination and testing policy for council members and those who sit on municipal committees and boards.

The motion is being brought forward by rookie councillor Conor Allin

Currently, councillors and committee members must be vaccinated as a condition of taking part in Chatham-Kent business on municipal premises. Exceptions are made for those with an approved exemption under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The policy also allows for anyone who declines the shot must submit a negative COVID test within 72 hours prior to coming to a municipal building to take part in meetings or other events.

In his motion, Allin said the municipality suspended their vaccination and testing policy for employees and contractors, with the exception of new hires.
