Chatham-Kent now has a road map if council wants to get out their scissors to install efficiencies and cut costs.
Consultant KPMG had been hired by the municipality to perform a service delivery review and efficiency comparison with similar municipalities. KPMG provided its final report during Monday’s council meeting.
Council accepted Monday’s report for information purposes.
KPMG consultants said the report has significant opportunities to move the municipality forward in a positive direction and benefit the community as a whole in the long-term.
Council will now have to decide if they want to move forward with recommendations in the report. Eliminating or modifying services could cause some concern to residents and any service change will be sensitive in nature, which will probably weigh heavy on councillors’ minds as they prepare for a municipal election in just under a year.
The report cost $147,000, of which the province paid for two-thirds and Chatham-Kent paid for one-third.
