CK Police Officer Cleared In Crash That Injured Woman

No charges will be laid against a Chatham-Kent police officer following a collision that seriously injured a woman in Blenheim.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said on September 23, 2021, officers responded to a 911 call about a home invasion in progress. One of the officers spotted a vehicle while en route that stopped before accelerating away. The officer pursued the vehicle and after a brief chase, the driver lost control of the vehicle on the gravel shoulder, causing it to roll several times.

A man fled the vehicle, while two women were left inside. The officer assisted the two women and called for paramedics.

One of the occupants, a 27-year-old woman, suffered a dislocated hip as a result of the crash.

Following an investigation, the SIU has concluded that the officer executed his duties lawfully, with due care and regard for public safety. Accordingly, the file has been closed.

The SIU investigates all incidents involving police officers that result in death, serious injuries, or allegations of sexual assault.
