Near Miss in Chatham Leads to Charges

A chaotic scene near downtown Chatham has led to impaired driving charges.

Yesterday afternoon, police say a vehicle narrowly missed a pair of cyclists on King Street West near the Lacroix bridge, and then veered onto the sidewalk.

The driver was pulled over, and officers suspected he may have been drinking.

Authorities say the accused put up a fight while being placed under arrest, but was eventually subdued and taken to headquarters for tests.

The 24-year-old is now charged with impaired driving and resisting arrest, and will have to face a judge on May 25th.
