Neurologist Joins CKHA Staff

A new doctor is calling Chatham-Kent home.

Neurologist Dr Awad Mortada is joining the team at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, providing general outpatient neurology clinics.

Dr Mortada recently relocated to the municipality with his family.

Originally from Lebanon, he moved to Alberta in 2009 where he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, working at hospitals in Edmonton and Red Deer.

Dr. Mortada will also join the stroke team at the Health Alliance, and will become a member of the Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr Mortada feels strongly about providing general neurology services locally, since many patients rely on friends or family to drive them to their medical appointments out of town.

“Having a specialist in the community will be beneficial,” he explains. “It puts less strain on families and provides the patient with the best care, beside putting less cost on the health system.”

Dr Mortada will begin seeing patients at his clinic on Dover Street in Chatham starting on Monday.
