New Children’s Treatment Centre in the Works

Big plans are in store for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent. new-ctc

The organization, which provides specialized services for young people with physical, developmental, or communication needs, is planning to build a new 50,000 square foot facility in Chatham.

Executive Director Donna Litwin-Makey says they’ve outgrown their current building.

“We’ve done renovations every other month, we’re adding and subtracting and changing, maybe making an office into a family room,” Litwin-Makey says. “We don’t have the accessibility anymore for some of our students, some of our staff with a disability, we want to be state of the art and lead the community with that.”

Litwin-Makey says the new facility will allow the Centre to expand its programs.

“A lot of our models have switched to families learning a lot of strategies to go home and do,” she explains. “We need spots where families are together and learning in more of a classroom-style, for instance. Groups have been a challenge because we’re small and compacted.”

The new facility will be located at McNaughton Avenue near Bear Line in Chatham.

Although the Centre hasn’t received a financial commitment from the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the site has already been secured.
