A new mural has been unveiled at Chatham-Kent’s hospital with the intention of creating a therapeutic and dignified environment for those receiving care.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance recently held an unveiling of the newly commissioned mural installation at the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre at the hospital’s Chatham site.

Miranda Andrews was commissioned to create the piece following a public call for submissions earlier this year and a comprehensive review by a selection committee and the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.

Hospital officials said the art piece aims to transform the clinical setting, providing a visual sense of peace and hope to those receiving care.

“Miranda’s mural is more than just art; it is a piece of healing that transforms our space. It provides a visual reminder of hope, tranquillity, and resilience, which is essential for the survivors who come through our doors, offering them comfort and dignity as they begin their journey toward recovery,” said Tara Greenway, Team Lead of the treatment centre, in a news release.

The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre provides critical, round-the-clock specialized care and confidential follow-up support for individuals who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, or human trafficking.
