What should be the final chapter in Wallaceburg’s crosswalk saga will begin today as crews install a new pedestrian-activated traffic light at the corner of Murray and Reaume.
Chris Thibert, Chatham-Kent’s Manager of Infrastructure Services says the installation isn’t expected to cause much in the way of traffic disruptions.
“We don’t anticipate any lane closures with this work because everything they’re going to be doing is from the boulevard,” Thibert explains. “If anything, we might just be shifting traffic a little bit but still maintaining two directions of traffic.”
Thibert says the new crossing light – similar to a standard stop light – is the most advanced and safest device available and should ease the community’s concerns about the area.
The crosswalk has been the focus of the community’s attention and consternation since the municipality announced last spring that the all-way stop would be removed in favour of a lighted crosswalk signal.
