A new addition at Chatham-Kent’s hospice will allow visitors to snuggle up with their loved ones who are receiving end-of-life care.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice has purchased a new “cuddle bed” for residents, which can extend up to 48 inches in width to enable additional room for cuddling between loved ones. The bed can also extend in length to accommodate someone over seven feet tall, and can also be used for bariatric patients.
The hospice said the bed enables staff to offer the most compassionate end-of-life care possible.
“We can think of so many opportunities where this bed will help provide more comfort for our residents and their families,” Sally Jenkins, manager of clinical operations at the hospice. “For example, the husband and wife who have been married for years will now be able to lay together; a grandma or grandpa will be able to have their grandchildren crawl into bed with them; or a resident who needs a bit more space will now have a comfortable bed.”
The purchase of the bed was made possible through a recent grant from the South Kent Wind Community Fund, a donor-advised fund in the Chatham Kent Community Foundation.
