New Exposure Point Identified As Measles Cases Rise In CK

Local health officials are reporting another possible measles exposure in Chatham-Kent as the virus continues to spread in the municipality.

Chatham-Kent Public Health said anyone who attended the Shoppers Drug Mart at 485 Grand Ave. W in Chatham on May 4 between 1 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. may have been exposed to the measles.

Those who were present during this timeframe and are not up-to-date on their vaccinations are asked to call CK Public Health at 519-352-7270 ext. 5902.

According to the most recent update from Public Health Ontario, another 10 cases of the measles virus were identified in Chatham-Kent between May 6 and May 13.

A total of 155 cases have now been reported in the municipality since January 1, which accounts for 9.6 per cent of all cases detected across the province.

Out of the 17 regional health units in Ontario, Chatham-Kent Public Health has reported the fourth-highest number of measles cases since the onset of the outbreak. Chatham-Kent also has the second-highest rate of infection at 142 people per 100,000.

Since October 28, 2024, a total of 1,622 measles cases have been identified in Ontario. Of those individuals, 88 per cent were unimmunized.
