New Funding Announced To Make Schools Safer

Ottawa is stepping in to help make Ontario schools safer as the third wave of the pandemic rages on.

The federal government is putting up $525-million and the provincial government is chipping in another $131 million to improve infrastructure to help protect staff and students from COVID-19.

The majority of funding will support ventilation projects that improve air quality in classrooms. Other projects include installing water bottle refilling stations, investing in network and broadband infrastructure to support remote learning, and space reconfigurations such as new walls and doors to enhance physical distancing.

The money comes as students and staff finish up the last few days of April Break before moving back to online learning for the foreseeable future.
