After months of reconsideration, Chatham-Kent’s intercounty baseball league team is ready to take the wraps off its new identity.
A ceremony will be held at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham Thursday, July 6 to unveil the team’s name, logo, and uniforms, as well as the initial offering of merchandise.
In January, the expansion team announced it would be called the Blackbirds, but dropped the name just days later, saying the term was considered racially insensitive.
Marketing firm The Hive then stepped in a few months later to help with rebranding, hoping to draw inspiration from the 1934 Chatham Coloured All Stars.
Some of the runners up from an online naming contest launched in December included North Stars, Legends, Wheat Kings, and Field Kings.
Thursday’s event begins at 3:30 and is open to the public.
