New Plaque To Honour Dresden’s Jackson Park

A local community group is celebrating Dresden’s history with a commemorative plaque.

The Chatham-Kent Heritage Network is inviting community members to take part in a plaque unveiling at Jackson Park on Wednesday, commemorating the venue as the “Historical Heart of Dresden”.

Those in attendance will learn more about the park’s rich history, which dates back to 1871. Initially, Dresden’s town hall, market square, stockyard, fairgrounds, hockey rink, football field, bandshell and more were all located in Jackson Park.

The plaque unveiling will take place at 5 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Dresden Library.

The historic plaque is one of several that will be erected around the municipality over the next several years, honouring different pieces of the community’s history. Each plaque costs roughly $2,000 and are funded through donations.
