Chatham-Kent residents will soon be getting new water metres.
According to Public Utilities Commission General Manager Tim Sunderland, metres will be replaced or upgraded.
“If a meter is over 15 years old the meter gets replaced, new technology gets put on it for remote signalling,” Sunderland says. “If the meter is under 15 years old and compatible with the new technology, then the technology is placed on the meter and away it goes, if the meter is not compatible, then that meter gets replaced.”
Sunderland says the new metres will allow monthly reads, rather than quarterly, so that water usage is measured with more precision.
