Several local community groups are teaming up to ensure children with mobility challenges can have more fun at the park.

A new wheelchair-accessible swing is being installed at Chatham’s Kingston Park, thanks to a partnership between the Rotary Club of Chatham, the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, and the Chatham-Kent Accessibility Advisory Committee. All six Chatham councillors also contributed with allotments from the Hydro One Community Benefit Fund.

“Our Club has been supporting the important work to create accessible and fun recreational opportunities for people with disabilities for many decades,” said Rotary Club of Chatham President Donna Litwin-Makey in a news release. “This project was a logical and exciting fit for us.”

“The Chatham-Kent Community Foundation places a strong priority on inclusion and accessibility and we look forward to seeing this new equipment being enjoyed by all”, added Chris Pegg, Executive Director of the Chatham-Kent Community Foundation.

This will be the first wheelchair-accessible swing in Chatham, and third in Chatham-Kent.

Rotary officials say construction will be starting shortly with hopes of completion in the next several months.
