A local politician wants only the best for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.
However, MPP Rick Nicholls says when it comes to provincial funding to support a new, expanded facility in Chatham, they’ll have to wait and see.
“We are doing a complete audit of the government of Ontario books right now, just to see what kind of shape the province is in financially,” Nicholls explains. “Once we know those numbers, we will eventually be preparing a budget and we’ll go from there. But we certainly want to try and get a request from the Children’s Treatment Center in there before anything else happens.”
The Treatment Centre Foundation has put together a concept design of what they’d like the new facility to look like, but Nicholls says as far as funding goes, the province is more focused on needs rather than wants.
“I can’t speak for the ministries involved, but I can advocate to those ministries on behalf of the Children’s Treatment Centre and Chatham-Kent to advocate for what our needs are.”
