No Charges Following Blenheim Lockdown

No charges will be laid following a firearm investigation in Blenheim that prompted a lockdown at nearby schools.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers received multiple reports at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday about a man walking along Chatham Street South carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

Officers quickly responded and secured the area. Blenheim District High School, Harwich Raleigh Public School, W.J. Baird Public School, and St. Anne Catholic School were placed under lockdown as a precaution, with officers attending each school.

The situation was quickly resolved after a 21-year-old man approached officers and said that he had been transporting a pellet gun to his residence. Once authorities confirmed that the pellet gun had not been used in a threatening manner, all lockdown measures were lifted.

Officers seized the pellet gun, and the 21-year-old was released unconditionally.
