No Charges for CK Cop After SIU Investigation

A Chatham-Kent Police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.

Back in December, 2016, a man was arrested for trespassing when he was seriously injured.

Authorities say the accused had tried to steal about $1400 in merchandise from a local department store, and was later discovered in a nearby backyard.

At the time, police said the suspect, a 39-year-old Walpole Island man, resisted arrest and tried to grab one officer’s Taser.

According to the SIU, the complainant was punched numerous times by the officers as they tried to get him under control.

The accused was later taken to hospital with an orbital bone fracture.

The SIU now says there are no reasonable grounds to lay criminal charges.
