Police are releasing more information after a threatening voicemail was left for a pair of Entegrus employees.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the utility’s office building at 320 Queen St. at around 3:45 p.m. on  February 10 after two Entegrus employees received the threatening message.

The building was evacuated by members of the police Emergency Response Team and K9 Unit.

Investigators learned that the threat was phoned by a male suspect who lived outside of the municipality. A warrant was then issued for his arrest on charges of uttering threats and public mischief.

However, officers learned that the man had been the victim of a scam call, with the scammers using “a spoofing technique” to make the call appear as if it was received from Entegrus.

Police said the accused was unaware he was calling a local utility in Chatham and “had absolutely no intentions of doing harm to anyone.”

As a result, all charges have been dropped against the individual.
