A celebration of agriculture and the people who support it is returning to Chatham-Kent for its eighth decade.

The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce has now opened nominations for the 80th Rural Urban Awards. The event honours residents, farm organizations, businesses and community partners whose contributions to local agriculture deserve recognition.

According to the Chamber, Chatham-Kent’s agriculture and agri-food sector contributes more than $4 billion in annual economic activity.

“What happens in our fields shapes what happens on our main streets,” said Amanda
Clark, board chair for the CK Chamber of Commerce. “Our rural and urban communities do not have separate economic futures. We grow together. This 80th celebration honours generations of people who have understood that connection—and the leaders who are carrying it forward.”

Nominations are being accepted for six categories: Agriculturist of the Year, Woman of Agriculture, Friend of Agriculture, Future Leader of the Year, Agriculture Innovator of the Year — Business, and Agriculture Innovator of the Year — Individual.

Nominations close November 20 and can be submitted online by clicking here.

The Rural Urban Awards will be handed out Saturday, January 30 at the Everest Convention Centre.
