Another tornado has been confirmed in southwestern Ontario.
Officials with the Northern Tornadoes Project, based out of Western University, say Tuesday evening’s storm that brought high winds and heavy rain to Chatham-Kent also spawned a tornado just southeast of London, in the community of Durwent.
The preliminary investigation included video and radar evidence from the area, and an NTP survey team is expected to visit the scene to determine the storm’s intensity and track in the next few days.
It is the second confirmed tornado to hit the area in the last week, following an EF0 tornado and microburst in the Lucan and Granton areas on May 9.
The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded in 2017 to better detect tornados throughout Canada and improve severe and extreme weather understanding.
