
A dark and stormy evening in Chatham-Kent.
A red level tornado warning was issued by Environment Canada shortly after 7 o’clock on Thursday, which was followed by heavy rain and hail pounding the area.
Officials with the Northern Tornadoes Project say a supercell tornado left a narrow path of damage west of Glencoe. After an initial investigation following the event, a preliminary rating of EF0 was assigned.
A damage survey team will visit the area today to determine a final rating and document any downburst or hail damage from the storm.
The Northern Tornadoes Project was founded at Western University in 2017 to better detect tornados throughout Canada and improve severe and extreme weather understanding.
