Off-Duty Cop Finds Thousands Of Dollars’ Worth Of Stolen Property

A pair of Chatham men are facing charges after they were allegedly caught unloading thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen property.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an off-duty officer spotted a suspicious U-Haul truck in an alleyway near Lorne Avenue in Chatham and contacted his fellow officers at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Two people were also seen unloading suspected stolen property from the U-Haul.

Police arrived at the scene and arrested two 47-year-old Chatham men. Both are now charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

The accused were later released from custody with conditions and July court dates.
