Charges have been laid after police officers were assaulted while responding to a report of screams coming from a Chatham home.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to a residence on Queen Street shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday after someone inside was heard screaming.
Police found the door unlocked when they arrived but received no initial response after announcing their presence. However, someone inside abruptly closed the door on the officers.
Due to the nature of the call officers breached the door and located a woman inside. When police attempted to assist her, she assaulted the officers.
Officers also learned that the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
As a result, a 36-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and is now charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of failing to attend court. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.
