One Suspect in Custody Following Wardsville Break In

Charges have been laid after a break-in and police chase near Wardsville.

Provincial Police, the OPP K9 unit, and members of the Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation responded to a Longwoods Road business just before 3:30 Thursday morning for a break and enter in progress.

The suspect vehicle fled before officers arrived, but was spotted a short time later.

Using a spike belt, police were able to stop the vehicle. Two suspects fled the scene and one of the accused was later found and taken into custody without incident.

Authorities say the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Chatham, had a loaded shotgun inside.

A 37-year-old London man is facing over half a dozen charges, including various weapons offences, obstructing police, and break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The search continues for the second suspect.
