Ontario NDP To Elect New Leader In The Spring

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath speaks in Chatham on May 29, 2018.

Ontario New Democrats will choose a new party leader this spring.

The provincial NDP announced on Friday that the new party leader will be elected in the first week of March 2023.

Former party leader Andrea Horwath resigned following the June 2 election, which saw Conservative Premier Doug Ford secure a second term with a majority government.

Toronto MPP Peter Tabuns is currently serving as the party’s interim leader.

Candidates who intend to campaign for the leadership will have until December to register. The new NDP leader will be chosen through ranked ballots and contenders will take part in two leadership debates over the course of the race.
