Provincial Advice For Hallowe’en: Stay Safe and Follow Public Health Advice

The provincial government and Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health are advising Ontario residents to stay safe and follow public health advice for Hallowe’en.

Dr. David Williams has issued a statement, asking Ontarians to take extra precautions to ensure “you are keeping yourself and your families safe.”

Dr. Williams is asking that families not travel outside of their neighbourhood to celebrate Halloween.

In addition, according to Dr. Williams, Ontario residents outside of modified Stage 2 regions are asked to:

The Chief Medical Officer is recommending residents check with and follow instructions from their local municipality or public health unit for any additional advice or restrictions that may be in place.

For those in hotspots areas, Dr. Williams is recommending residents NOT take part in traditional door-to-door trick or treating. This includes areas that have been placed in modified Stage 2 regions including Ottawa, Peel, Toronto and York.

Alternative options for those areas include, but are not limited to:

“I would also like to remind everyone that we are in a second wave of COVID-19,” says Williams. “There have been increases in cases in many areas across the province, and the percentage of people tested who get a positive result is going up. The severity of this second wave is in our hands. Through our collective efforts, we can change the outcome of this new outbreak. That is why it remains critical to continue following these important actions everyday in order to protect your health and stop the spread of COVID-19.”
