The latest change to the province’s labour laws have come into effect, mandating equal pay for equal work between casual, part-time, temporary and seasonal workers, and full-time or permanent workers.
The new rules, part of Ontario’s “Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act” officially went into effect April first.
Casual, part-time, temporary and seasonal employees can’t be paid less than full-time or permanent employees if they do the same kind of work with the same skill, effort, and responsibility.
Temp agencies are also not allowed to pay assignment employees less than employees directly hired by the agency’s clients under the same conditions.
