Police say deer v.vehicle collision rates tend to spike in the hour and a half on either side of sunrise and sunset, putting drivers and animals at risk of injury or death.
A transport struck a deer on the 401 yesterday morning near Ridgetown, but police say there was only minor damage done to the truck and no injuries reported.
Authorities are reminding motorists to watch for animals along the side of the road, as deer will often run from protected areas like ditches, stream corridors, and woodlots. As well, since deer often travel in herds, if you see one there are likely others nearby. And slow down – the slower you go, the more time you have to react if you see an animal darting across the road in front of you.
