The all-clear has been sounded following an overnight fire at the ethanol plant in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent firefighters, with support from the St. Clair Township Fire Service, responded to the Greenfield Global property on Bloomfield Road shortly after midnight, finally bringing the flames under control and extinguishing the blaze just before 8 o’clock Wednesday morning.
No injuries have been reported.
Municipal officials say preliminary information suggests the blaze may have started following a lightning strike, but nothing has been confirmed and the cause remains under investigation.
Officials say there are no indications of any air quality issues, as ethanol is a clean-burning fuel, producing relatively low levels of smoke and airborne particles.
Cleanup crews remain at the scene this afternoon, and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is working with Greenfield Global as cleanup activities move forward.
