Pace Program’s 11th Hour

wdssOfficials at Wallaceburg District Secondary School are still scrambling to find funding with one week to go before the PACE program is scrapped.

PACE, which stands for Partnership, Achievement, Cultural Awareness and Engagement, has been running for 11 years providing support for at-risk students.

Coordinator Ken O’Neil says he’s following up on some leads on provincial funding.

“I’ve been in contact with the provincial advocate for children and youth of Ontario and he’s put me in contact few different ministries that we may meet the criteria for funding,” says O’Neil.  “So I’ve been in some discussions with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. I was just contacted by the Ministry of Child and Youth Services and they want to have a teleconference.”

The program, which provides support for at-risk students, is set to be eliminated at the end of the month.
