A stand-off in Chatham has landed a local man with several charges.
Police received a call shortly after midnight by a man who claimed he had been assaulted, then threatened to set fire to his backyard on Lacroix Street and ‘burn everything.’
Authorities say the accused was already wanted for bail violation stemming from a 2021 incident involving charges of assaulting a police officer, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose.
Police and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue officials arrived on the scene and set up containment around the property until the man was taken safely into custody.
The 53-year-old suspect has been charged with uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
