
Charges have been laid after a Wallaceburg resident was struck and killed by a vehicle on Walpole Island First Nation.
The Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Tecumseh Road between Chiefs Road and Aquash Lane, shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday.
The pedestrian, a 22-year-old from Wallaceburg, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, a 25-year-old resident from Walpole Island First Nation was arrested and is now charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, impaired driving causing death, failing to stop at a collision causing death, dangerous operation causing death, and driving while under suspension. The accused was held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody.
Police have stated that a publication ban has been issued, and no further details about the investigation will be released at this time.
