Petition To Keep Crossing Guards

sign-the-petitionChatham-Kent’s decision to discontinue the role of crossing guards is being questioned by a Dresden resident that has started a petition aimed at saving the position.

Ward 4 representative Leon LeClair says he has heard the concern and understands it.

He says the main street in Dresden can be quite busy especially with harvest season and the tomato trucks going up and down the street.

Originally the school boards looked after crossing guards but that responsibility shifted to the municipality.  There are close to 60 crossing points in Chatham – Kent.

“It’s become a liability issue more than a safety issue now,” says LeClair.  “As not all crossing points have crossing guards.”

The petition can be found here.
