Plans to revitalize the Stonehouse Walking Bridge in Wallaceburg are taking another step forward.

The span over the Sydenham River has been closed since November 2021 due to structural and public safety concerns.

In March 2022, council gave the go-ahead to spend $1.6 million to rehabilitate the walking bridge with work expected to begin in 2023.

Dillon Consulting has been hired to complete a class environmental assessment, and local residents are now being asked for their feedback.

The proposal includes a replacement of the main and lift spans, and rehabilitation of the remaining structure.

A virtual public information centre, including pros and cons of various options to repair or replace the bridge and an opportunity for residents to submit questions or concerns, will be online until November 24th.
