Students attending Lambton College will soon have a new place to call home.
After a nearly four-year planning process, officials say they are ready to break ground on a new student residence, the largest capital project in the college’s 58-year history.
The five-storey building will be located on the north end of campus towards London Road in the green space to the east of the EarlyON Centre. College officials say it will provide students with a mix of hybrid and apartment-style suites, including kitchen facilities. Communal spaces, lounges, and an outdoor patio will ensure students have built-in social opportunities, along with quiet spaces to focus on their studies.
“This residence is more than a building; it’s a commitment to Sarnia-Lambton and the students who will shape its future as workers and community members,” said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. “Having this purpose-built student housing will support us in attracting new students to our community, and it will also help us show them the fulfilling lives they can have if they stay.”
The residence, which is expected to open in September 2027, is being developed through a public-private partnership with Tilbury Properties Corporation, and Fengate Asset Management, to design, construct, finance, operate, and maintain the residence.
An official groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday, June 25, with various dignitaries on hand. The event will also include a celebratory street party with music, pizza, ice cream, and outdoor games.
